Do Good

My attempt to pen a favorite scripture in a calligraphy class at BYU in 1994.

There are several in the blogging world who post a word at the beginning of each year to be their focus for the coming year. I like the idea. I've never formally chosen a word, but sometime last year I decided that if I were to pick one word it would be Simplify. I'm still going on my simplify kick. Just today I cleaned out my kitchen cupboards and got rid of all kinds of things that I never use or can easily live without. It felt good.

With the new year, I decided I'd like a new focus as well. Unable to come up with a single word that encompasses all that's been swirling around in my brain, I received my inspiration when reading a long-time favorite scripture. D&C 6:34 says, "Therefore, fear not little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail."

I love this scripture for many reasons, but the one thing that jumped out at me this time was do good. If we belong to His little flock - if He is our shepherd - then we have no need to fear. Do good. No matter what is going on around us, we can go about doing good knowing that He will keep us safe. We can be His hands as we do good to bless the lives of those around us.

So that's my focus for the year.

Do good.

I think it's going to be a great year!

1994? Wasn't it called "Brigham Young Academy" back then?

I LOVE that scripture! It was one I gravitated to on my mission long ago! And it has stuck! I also LOVE reading your posts! You will forever remain my HERO (or heroine if you choose to be politically correct)
